The surveys programmed via our CAWI tool are written in a questionnaire description language which we defined. This powerful language is simple and intuitive, and enables the description of :

The questionnaire description is stored in XML format.

Scripting mode and graphical interface

This language as well as other elements (images, page layout, home and end pages description) can be defined in two ways:

  • in scripting mode (i.e. via "command line" by using a simple text editor); or
  • a graphical browser-based interface.

The scripting mode is mainly used by clients programming a significant number of questionnaires. This mode increases productivity and effectiveness.
The graphical interface offers a more simple and intuitive way to program questionnaires.

These two modes are not mutually exclusive but complementary. A survey can be started in scripting mode and continued in graphical mode or vice versa.

Types of question

This language enables a user to define all possible types of question, including:

  • single/multiple choice,
  • integer/float/intervals,
  • open-ended,
  • multi-dimensioned questions,
  • groups of questions.

As we developed this CAWI language, we can easily implement any additional requirements you may have. We can extend the system to add particular routines to meet any specific survey needs (database connection, specific authentication processes, external modules to accomplish specific tasks such as Trade-Off tools, etc).
